Dear Volunteers,

Greetings! At the outset we would like to take this opportunity to thank many of you who have contributed to the Bala Janaagraha program. It has been another successful run for the programme and we have impacted 3,890 school children in 2011-12. The last 10 years has seen more than 21,000 children go through this program.

Another academic year is around the corner and we are reaching out to you to be a part of this journey once again.

Bala Janaagraha enables students to discover the rights and responsibilities of citizens in a democracy, all the while, developing a deep sense of ownership and responsibility towards their society. It demystifies local government, introduces the students to political relevance of the ward, and stresses the need for citizen participation in local governance, thus, catalysing change. These sessions are conducted between June and October. The curriculum is taught in both Englishand Kannada.

Please find the document explaining the break-up of classes that a school would give us to deliver the Program here.

More details on Bala Janaagraha is available here.

We invite you to be a part of this initiative by volunteering for the Bala Janaagraha program.

Call us at 080-40790400 or write to volunteer@janaagraha.org

Warm Regards,

Janaagraha Volunteer Team

Janaagraha Volunteers

Dear Volunteers,

Thank you for your continued support and engagement with Janaagraha. One of our online campaigns, iJanaagraha.org, which is committed to bringing about awareness and change at the local neighbourhood level is looking for volunteer support. We require volunteers to network on the website and encourage other citizens in their localities to sign up on the site and participate in the activity of posting issues that plague their streets /wards/ neighbourhoods . This way, citizens of the same street/ward can connect with one another and with the help of civic know-how provided on the site collectively solve issues in their areas.

If we dig deep, every one of us has an issue that touches a raw nerve – be it tree cutting, solid waste management, traffic, water, urban poverty. iJanaagraha.org aspires to be a platform that enable citizens to be able to come together and collectively arrive at solutions to issues that plague our neighbourhoods and the city at large.

If this is something that interests you, please write in to us at volunteer@janaagraha.org or call us at 080 40790400.

Our volunteers’ perseverance is the key to the success of all ourinitiatives . We look forward to fostering our online communities with similar energy and drive!

Warm Regards,

Kavitha Mhatre

Electricity cuts in our city are more regular than the water supply in our taps. Our roads are full of potholes. Poor city governance affects ALL OF US.

But here’s a powerful chance to improve your city and your life.
To support the Jaagte Raho! campaign
On February 21, 2010, Bengaluru will vote for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) elections to elect ward-level Corporators. These are the leaders who will tackle all the water, garbage, sanitation and road problems in your neighbourhood, things that affect you on a day-to-day basis.

Do you wish to play an important role in deciding who will lead and change Bengaluru?

After running India’s largest voter registration drive last year, we at Janaagraha (a non-profit organization) have launched the Jaagte Raho! campaign to encourage Bengaluru to vote. Jaagte Raho! is a long term initiative to inspire values of active citizenship in urban India by bringing out the vote for union, state and local elections; and by promoting participation in neighbourhood areas.

This is the campaign to support if you want to change Bengaluru. This is the campaign to support if you want to get your community out to vote.
