IYCN wishes you and your family a happy holi. After a period of some internal planning, we are ready to go again.
World Water Day – 2010
The quote from Thirukural — “Life cannot exist without water, nor can flowing water without rain” — clearly puts down the importance of water in our lives. Increasing population coupled with unstainable consumption, has put enormous strain on the water resources only with the risk of worsening further. The existing problems if not addressed in time, will become more acute due to climate change. The prediction so far suggests an upward trend in mean monthly temperature and average rainfall. However, the prediction indicates downward trend in the number of wet days in a year. The impact of climate change would be seen in terms of increased sub-regional variations and more extreme rain events. In a country that gets rain for less than 100 hours in a year (a year has 8,760 hours), this would be disastrous.
To raise awareness about the issues relating to water and demand action IYCN, is organizigng a series of events across the country on March 22nd, the world water day. For more information please check for further details http://www.iycn.in/wwd2010
