We at iVolunteer commit our best to promote volunteering, which we believe is a huge step towards social development in our country. This month, themed around Valentine’s Day, we are organizing a volunteer engagement with disadvantaged elderly, and we are trying to provide them with some much needed attention, joy and help.

Here is our invitation to support this cause by donating your time and effort for those who have sacrificed much for our happiness – our senior citizens. Help us in adding joy and brightness to their lives; by way of helping them in making Paper Bags – which adds to their income. This apart, join us for a time of group games, singing, interaction with the elderly and have the privilege to listen to their stories and experiences!!!

When: This Saturday, the 11th of February (2pm – 4.30pm)

Where: Nightingales Sandhya Kirana, Next to Divyashree Chambers, Opp. Sita Bhateja Nursing Home, O Shangassey Road, Akkithimanahalli, Richmond Town, Bangalore 560025

What do you have to do to be a part of this?

· Register Here!

· Bring loads of compassion, an open mind and an open heart!

· Carry old newspapers and Magazines for the NGO if you can!

For any questions, please contact: Kareena on 080-41466568/ 9945174071.

Sometimes we don’t encounter problems; rather problems find some of us who have the vision and a resolve to make the world a better place. Something similar happened when Prateek and Prarthana working on an event with blind kids had to struggle in order to arrange apt gifts for them. The immediate question that struck them was what if a sighted person needs to give a card to a blind. If a sighted gives him card with words that a blind can’t read, He will have to take help from someone. What if a blind has to gift a card to a sighted, again take help? Why not have a greeting card which can be read by both of them, which is in Braille and in language which a sighted can see. Also through their experience of working with blind in past they thought a blind might relate to music so why not search for few musical instruments etc but then the thought came was not necessary that all blind would connect to music. This moment of realization and a vision to bridge this gap led to this initiative known as GiftAbled Foundation.
When we think about making a difference to the disabled, we usually think about their education, jobs and career. But ‘GiftAbled Foundation’ is a different approach that has thought about Disability from the emotional front as well.

What is the purpose of this get-together?
· Getting to know fellow-volunteers – most of us are quite involved in the project we are associated with, and our interactions have likely been limited to the other volunteers at that project/event. This gives an occasion to interact with and get to know all the other volunteers in our area.

· Zooming out and seeing the bigger picture – Again, we tend to immerse ourselves fully into the project/activity we are associated with; it’s important to every once in a while give ourselves the chance to look beyond at the bigger picture of the entire spectrum of activities and work YFS volunteers are doing.

· Developing our understanding of the Developmental space – By being exposed to ideas and knowledge about the various aspects of the developmental space, we broaden our understanding, which in turn gives more depth to the work we do.

· Sharing experiences and jointly resolving any issues – We can all share our experiences while out on field in our respective projects/activities, and this also serves as a platform to jointly discuss possible solutions to roadblocks any volunteer might be facing.

· Personal growth and Volunteering plan for the month ahead – By discussing the various options during the upcoming few weeks, each of us can decide our personal volunteering plan for the coming month, uptil the next volunteer get-together. Also, to look at the various opportunities for personal growth that volunteering as an experience inevitably offers.

As part of this volunteer get-together, we plan to come out with teaching aids for the children (for Spoken English program) with the following themes in mind.

Indiranagar – Places in India
Banashankari – Festivals of India
Malleswaram – Dances of India
Jayanagar – Great Personalities of India

Request you to explore on the above themes and suggest ideas during the meeting.

Regards,
Youth for Seva
