We are sending you this email to introduce you to Bangalore::Hack 2013, a hackathon for the developer community, brought to you by Sequoia Capital.

Bangalore::Hack 2013 is the inaugural version of an annual hackathon, meant for programmers who would like to come together and hack some cool ideas. There are no slides, no VC pitches, and no jackets (unless that’s how you roll). It’s meant to help you showcase to your peer community, locally and worldwide, and collaborate to building the future in an intense 24 hour burst.

Sequoia Capital believes that the world is changed by the application of technology. We have been fortunate to have closely witnessed the world changing many times in the past few decades. We believe fervently in the ability of hackers to do so, and we are privileged and honored to play a small part in their journey. The aim of this hackathon is to get together and code. For folks who prefer to have ideas laid out as challenges, we will provide some. For folks who already know what they would like to build, this is a great venue to come build it out and collaborate with their peers.

We recognize that great software needs a confluence of people / ideas and disciplines. So as part of this event, we will have some of the best designers and UX architects mingling with you to help you design UI’s if that’s what you are trying to do. In addition, CTO’s, technical architects, distinguished engineers, chief scientists of various companies from India and abroad will be available as mentors to help guide efforts if you choose to avail of them.

To further up the excitement around this, we’ve asked Bill Coughran (http://www.coughran.net/wmcbio.html) to be the chief guest for this event, and also be available as a mentor and guide to the participants. Bill was Vice President of the Center that invented C / C++ / UNIX in Bell Labs. He was SVP of Engineering of Google when they built Chrome, Maps and Youtube. In the field of systems and infrastructure, there are few people like Bill, and this event is a great chance to hear from and interact with him.

We would love to see you at this event. If you are interested, please go to http://www.facebook.com/bangalorehack2013 and follow instructions to sign up for an invite. Also don’t forget to like the page to see updates on the event (and to get the event some publicity!!) and follow us on twitter @BangaloreHack

If you face any trouble registering, please send us a mail at bangalorehack2013@sequoiacap.com

Feel free to forward to other great hackers you would like to see at the event.

TL;DR: Hackathon on Sept 14/15, come write some code, no slides required, cool prizes, great mentors, chief guest responsible for the invention of C/C++/Unix. Tech event of the year, don’t miss.
Find out more about and register for the Bangalore::Hack 2013 here.

Hi Friends,
Bamboo Rustles is planning to conduct a Biodiversity Count – in the Kongenapalli Range (Krishnagiri District). The aim of the biodiversity count is to gain a better insight about the flora and fauna (insects, birds, plants, mammals) of the area surrounding the camp. It will also be a fun camp out experience surrounded by forests in the night.

Those interested in the count can confirm their participation with us at the earliest. This would help us in making the necessary arrangements for the night out at the camp.

Brief Program:
Cost: Rs. 500 (This entire amount will be donated to Kenneth Anderson Nature Society (KANS) towards conservation in the Melagiri Range). http://www.kans.org.in/
Sept 7th: (Depart Bangalore Around Noon)
– Once every one reaches the camp we shall have a small introduction session to get to know each other.
– We shall hand out tents (sharing basis) to put up for the night to all the participants.
– After which we shall make three to four teams to conduct the biodiversity count of the area.
– By about 4:30pm onwards each team will head out to start the count and return back to the camp by nightfall. After which we shall have dinner, those teams interested can also go for a night trail in the surrounding areas.
Sept 8th :
– Each team shall again start the biodiversity count at 6:00am in the morning and be back by 8:30am for breakfast.
– Post breakfast all the teams shall meet together to consolidate the data collected during the count.
– After which we shall pack the tents take a group picture and people can depart back to Bangalore or spend more time at the camp site.

We shall be providing very simple and basic dinner and breakfast, and as mentioned earlier a tent on sharing basis and sleeping bags.

Dear volunteer,

Are you tired of seeing garbage around you despite the recent development of activities in solid waste management in Bangalore? If you wish to be a part of the solution, rather than the problem itself, you can contribute a lot by volunteering for the last mile of our decades long battle!

My Clean Malleswaram is an organization dedicated to making Malleswaram Assembly Constituency a zero waste neighbourhood, and it has been on this task in a systematic manner for the past 6 months.
In these 6 months, My Clean Malleswaram has made an effort to touch base with more than 1000 families in Malleswaram to get them to segregate waste into dry and wet waste and manage the categories of waste in-house.

MCM at Work!

The team has reached a stage where volunteers can contribute to scale up the operations to ensure that all houses in Malleswaram segregate waste, and bulk waste generators also manage the segregated waste themselves.

Volunteers can take up many roles in the streamlined effort, including:
1. Spreading awareness in residents by conducting presentations at apartments and talking to people.
2. Helping in raising funds for sustaining operations by connecting the team with various donors.
3. Liasing with local service providers for spreading their solutions to ensure decentralized management to the extent possible.
4. Managing and recruiting volunteers to spread the work to convert houses in all the 7 wards of the constituency.
5. Handling the online activities, including website development and maintenance, facebook, twitter etc.

All interested volunteers will be taken through a basic orientation session before starting the work.

In case you are interested in contributing towards making Malleswaram a zero waste community, please register in the form below. If you have any queries, you can also get in touch with Akshay on 9972 315 305, or Shyamala on 9632 542 449.
